What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is any activity that provides enjoyment, relaxation or diversion from daily life. It may include activities such as watching movies or television, listening to music, playing games or sports, reading books and poetry, visiting art galleries and museums and participating in recreational events such as social gatherings or attending live performances. According to Bates and Ferri (2010) entertainment is understood objectively, communicates from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience and occurs in a passive form. It also can be a means of learning and intellectual growth. The origin of the word entertainment is from the medieval Latin intertenere, derived from the Indo-European root ten, meaning to hold inside.
